If you should happen to be driving along River Drive near Riverside Park any Wednesday evening from May until late August, you will see more than one hundred people gathered around the 20 horseshoe pits in the park playing horseshoes and having a great time.

Members of the 3 For 3 Horseshoe league have been pitching at these courts along the river for nearly fifty continuous years.  League members are comprised of people from all walks of life, and include teens, seniors, men and women of all ages.

Although the pitching is competitive, the underlying theme is just having a great time, complete with a huge bar-b-que at year’s end in late August.

The 3 For 3 Horseshoe League also holds an annual Great Falls City Tournament with participants from all over the state.  About every three years the Montana State Horseshoe Tournament is held here in Great Falls.

Our league is the largest in the state, and our members usually fare well both at the State Championships and also at the World Championships (which were held in 2024 in Kennewick, Washington).

This year, for example, several of our pitchers did very well at the World Championships including Kelsey Klundt and Ryder Smith, both of whom won their respective divisions, and Lee LeVeque who placed 2nd.

Montana State Tournament division winners at Havre this year were Mel Long (overall tournament champion), Rich Gaskins, Ryder Smith, and Rhya Anderberg.

Anyone interested in the great sport of horseshoe pitching is invited to join us.  You can contact state director Kelsey Klundt at (406) 231-1276 or just drop by next summer. You will be welcomed with open arms!
