Bison + Beargrass brings a “Montana inspired” shopping experience to life. While walking in their store you’ll witness the heart and personality of Elisha and John Mack, owners of Bison + Beargrass. Elisha and John are fun, vibrant, nature lovers who embarked in their new journey of retail in Fall 2023.
Their storefront began with their photography studio titled, “Really Montana Photography”, which has been present for 8 years in the heart of downtown Great Falls. Their studio took up the front half and the back-half was empty. After a while, Elisha and John began talking, they wondered if they wanted to welcome in a new tenant to share the space or figure something else out to do with the extra room they had.
That’s when they realized they wanted to explore retail. Thus, the idea of Bison + Beargrass was born. Their photography studio was then discretely moved to the back half of their store and now Bison + Beargrass is front and center — located across Mighty Mo Brewing Company and right next to Kaufmans Menswear.
Bison + Beargrass officially opened November 25, 2023 on Small Business Saturday, which makes their retail store 8 months old! Elisha and John have their friendly furry companion, May, a 2.5yr old golden retriever, readily greeting you alongside them. May brings a calming presence to their store while happily saying hello.
When you stay awhile, Elisha and John enjoy talking with you. They want to make connections and learn your story. They hope that their store can be a place where you walk in and feel right at home, knowing you’re important to them. While you converse with Elisha and John, and look at their goods – you may even feel slightly inspired.
That’s because Elisha and John are truly authentic and want to share what makes Montana so special. They want to inspire people to look around and realize the beauty that surrounds them. Their goods reflect just that. All their items are hand-picked from trusted artisans known for quality work, often from the regional northwestern area of USA. They look for items that are fun, interesting, and new. And remember, most importantly, “Montana Inspired”.
A goal of Bison + Beargrass is to bring in more of their own hand-made items. It brings them great joy when someone picks out an item they’ve created. Elisha and John’s store, photography, and lifestyle is truly a labor of love.
