Alice Lewis recently founded DonLew’s Foundation to provide health information and hygiene supplies to youth so they can thrive in feeling healthy and confident. “Our purpose is to provide young people with essential hygiene products and information to maintain cleanliness,” explained Alice. “We are a collective impact group made up of diverse community members. We are passionate about eliminating stigmas and alleviating many of the barriers that keep young people from fully participating in school or the community due to hygiene poverty.”

DonLew’s Foundation collects health and hygiene education and personal care products to distribute to disadvantaged children and youth up to age 18. These items are donated, collected, sorted, and distributed to community partners, including K-12 schools, youth-serving organizations, shelters, and charities that serve underserved communities.

To address the challenges young girls face during their first period, DonLew’s organizes period parties to provide information about menstruation and its biological function.

On August 24th, from 10 am to 2 pm, the DonLew Foundation will be holding their first toiletry drive at the House of Grace, located at 416 2nd Ave SW. They are asking for any new hygiene items including deodorant, body wash, bar soap, shampoo, conditioner, toothbrushes, toothpaste, mouthwash, dental floss, washcloths, bath towels, lip balm, feminine hygiene items, body lotion, first-aid items, nail clippers, disposable razors, shaving cream, and hand sanitizer.
