The Augusta Livestock 4-H Club attended the 2024 Lewis & Clark County 4-H Fair from July 23-28. The county horse shows occurred on the two weekends before the fair, and we had one of our members participate in those shows. Judging of indoor projects happened on Tuesday the 23rd. Animal judging started Wednesday the 24th and ended Friday the 26th. The animal and indoor project sales were on Saturday the 27th, and the fair ended on Sunday with shipping of animals and members cleaning up the barn and exhibit halls.
This was my second year in 4-H but my first time taking an animal project. I got to see how hard everybody worked on their projects and on taking care of their animals. Fair week was CRAZY! All of our club members had to get up early each day to get ready for their shows and had to stay up late to take care of their animals before the barn closed each night. I had a lot of fun learning how to care for and show different animals, but I’m still catching up on sleep!
I appreciate the judges, the volunteers, and the parents for helping with the fair and making it all possible. My friends in the club are very appreciative of the buyers of their market animals and indoor projects. This year I learned to look at the judges when I was talking to them, not just stare at my poster board or animal. I still have lots to learn, and I’m looking forward to doing new projects next year.
