Two vehicle accidents were reported to have occurred on Monday, July 1st.
The first of these accidents occurred at the intersection of 10th Ave South and 23rd Street South at approximately 12:15 pm. This accident involved four vehicles which were all westbound on 10th Avenue S and stopped at the intersection of 23rd Street.
A white Chevrolet Impala, a Semi with a flatbed trailer, and a Maroon Honda minivan were all stopped in traffic for the red light at 23rd Street. According to a press release, surrounding business surveillance cameras show that a black Chrysler minivan was westbound on 10th Ave South in the 2300-2400 block and did not slow down before striking the White Chevrolet Impala. This strike pushed the White Chevrolet Impala into the Semi with a flatbed trailer and subsequently both pushed forward into the Maroon Honda minivan.
Drivers of the Black Chrysler minivan, the White Chevrolet Impala, and the Maroon Honda minivan were all transported from the scene by ambulance to Benefis Emergency Department. The driver of the White Chevrolet Impala had the most severe injuries and is currently still in intensive care at Benefis.
The investigation is continuing into the nature and details of the crash. No citations have been issued yet.
The second incident occurred at the intersection of 10th Ave South and 23rd Street South at approximately 4:53 pm. This accident involved an SUV traveling westbound on 10th Avenue S, which was stopped at the intersection of 23rd S and attempting to turn Left onto 23rd Street S.
The second vehicle involved in this accident was a motorcycle eastbound on 10th Ave South, continuing through the intersection.
Eastbound/westbound traffic on 10th Ave South had a green light. There is no Arrow Left Turn Light at this intersection with 23rd Street.
The SUV was waiting for traffic to clear to make the left turn and turned in front of the motorcycle. The motorcycle struck the passenger side of The SUV and the rider was ejected from the motorcycle. The rider was transported from the scene by ambulance to Benefis Emergency Department and remains in intensive care. The rider was not wearing a helmet.
The driver of the SUV was cited for a Right Of Way Violation (fail to yield to traffic while making a left turn).
