At 6:09 pm on July 4th, Great Falls Fire Rescue responded to a fire at the Grizzly Inn, located at 1214 13th St S. Engine 1 and Battalion 1 arrived at the scene by 6:12 pm and found hotel occupants evacuating while noticing smoke coming from room 130. Further inspection at 6:19 pm revealed a smoking mattress in the room.

Engine 1 successfully entered the room and promptly put out the mattress and other small fires. The fire was contained to room 130, with minor smoke damage to the first-floor hallway. All other hotel rooms remained unaffected and available for occupancy.

The occupant of the room was arrested by GFPD and charged with intentionally setting the fire. One hotel guest was taken to the hospital for smoke inhalation, while no other occupants experienced any medical issues.
