This week’s Electric City Boxing Club Coach of the Week is Susan Keatts.
Susan Keatts “Coach Susie” wasn’t sure she really wanted to be a “coach”. She was more of a volunteer with a little knowledge and a heart for the boxers.
The kids/fighters made Coach Susie want to stick around and give them a reason to see the club as a “family” outside of their family. Susie comes from a long history of boxing! For starters her Uncle Ronnie DeBerry, her aunts (a couple of them) , many cousins, her kids, lots of nephews and can’t forget herself and her sisters.
Coach Susie loves her family which consists of her husband “ Coach Fish” , her daughters Ryen, Victoria, Madeline (boxer), Karrera, and sons Chevy (boxer) and Tristian (boxer). Her grand kids McKoy and Madden. And the family dog Ace.
Susie says she likes the relationships and trust she has built through boxing and the bond it has built with her family. When asked what else she likes about coaching Susie replied “watching the kids learn, and being ‘somebody’ for them, and joking and teasing with everyone.”
Coach Susie has been a registered Coach for about a year and volunteering for about 3-4 years now. Susie and her family are always active, her family travels and participates in other sports for the kids. Susie and her family like to hunt, fish, camp, go to pow-wows, go to see the stock cars and the fair almost anything to stay busy.
Coach Susie said if she could give anyone advice boxer or not, stay away from drugs, get an education, never give up, dust yourself off and try harder, don’t forget to be PROUD of yourself.
Susie would like to “Thank” a few people -Bib, Todd, Billy, Jamie St. Marks, Jamie Johnson, Coach Fish, all the fighters and especially Joe Joe, and Kaden for encouraging her and Coach Fish for getting them involved with boxing again.
