Becoming an author goes beyond just writing a book, although that’s an important first step in the journey. On Monday, May 20 at 4:30 pm in the Cordingley Room, two local self-published authors, Jake Sorich and Wilton Burke, will discuss how they got their books published, what they do to promote them, and some of the lessons they’ve learned from their own experiences.

In addition to being the Great Falls Public Library’s Communications Coordinator, Sorich also is the author of two non-fiction/history books, “The Cabbage Patch: Murder, Mystery, Fraud, Gangs, and Ethnic Wars in Butte Montana’s First Ghetto,” and “The Unforgettable M&M.” Both books were published through Sorich’s independent publishing outfit Old Butte Publishing, run by his grandfather Michael Byrnes.

Burke, meanwhile, is a writer and dreamer of science fiction and fantasy. He has written various novellas and novels and is always dreaming up new characters and scenes. His first published novel Magic Collapse is now in print and he is already working on the follow up story along with completing the science fiction graphics novel Dogwood Final Assault.

Burke and Sorich will answer questions from the audience following their prepared remarks about their journeys of becoming authors, as well.
