The City of Great Falls is beginning the process of updating its Growth Policy Plan. Your input will shape the future of the city and influence decisions and regulations based on shared values and aspirations.

A growth policy is a strategic roadmap that includes measurable goals and objectives based on data and analysis of the community’s current condition. This plan is designed to provide tangible results for residents.

The City’s most recent Growth Policy, “City of Great Falls Growth Policy Update 2013 – 2025 Imagine Great Falls,” was initiated on December 20th, 2011, and adopted on August 6th, 2013, after 19 and a half months of effort. This update was completed without the use of a third-party consultant.

For the 2024-25 Growth Policy Update, a consultant will be hired to perform most of the work. However, direct coordination with staff will still be included in the process.

The City of Great Falls is inviting applications from citizens who are interested in serving on the Growth Policy Steering Committee. The Steering Committee consists of a diverse group of representatives from business, industry, agriculture, environment, development, public health/medical, higher education, and members of the community. The Committee has been formed to provide feedback and input throughout the growth policy development process, from start to finish. It will serve as a communication channel for each member’s area of expertise and/or representative group.

The Steering Committee will ensure that a diverse group of individuals and organizations are represented to advise and inform the consultant, staff, and decision-makers throughout the Growth Policy development process. The Committee will provide feedback and input at every stage of the planning process, including developing the preliminary plan vision and goals, guiding principles, base concept development, strategies, element policies, priority actions, implementation strategies, and recommendations. The Committee will also review ongoing drafts, objections, and goals related to the growth policy. Finally, the Steering Committee will serve as a communication channel for each member’s area of expertise or representative group and assist with public engagement efforts.

Interested applicants are requested to submit their applications by 5 pm on April 12, 2024. Eligible applicants may represent business and industry, agriculture, environmental interests, housing and development, public health/medical, higher education/adult training, or the community in general.
