Great Falls Rugby Rattlers is the newest amateur sports team in Great Falls. This new team is comprised of local guys from Great Falls and Malmstrom AFB who have previously played rugby. “Right now, we’re focusing on trying to build up interest and awareness that we’re a team in town,” explained Ben Carley. “We’re also looking for sponsors, fundraising ideas, and approaching some businesses.”
“What we’re doing is called touch Rugby, so it can be co-ed because there’s no tackling and no contact,” explained Ben. “It’s basically flag football. At the moment, we’re just putting it out there where we’re going to meet up. It can be almost all ages because it’s safe. There’s no tackling. It’s just kind of cardio, social, and casual time.”
One of the team members is the head coach of the youth rugby team. If someone in the youth age group joins, they can cross over to the youth team.
The group will be meeting on Saturdays at 1 pm at Kiwanis Park. “There’s a lot of opportunities and potential that we’re seeing that we would love to tap into,” explained Ben.
The Great Falls Rugby Rattlers is trying to develop this local team, giving people the chance to come out and try rugby or just enjoy the time watching the team play.
The team hopes to join in with some of the other local sports organizations to share facilities. If you are interested in joining or just watching this team grow, please call (406) 403-2886, email rattlersrugbygf@gmail.com, find them on Facebook, or stop by Kiwanis Park on Saturday at 1 pm.
