Lincoln County Sheriff’s office, Alliance for Youth, and Cascade County Crimestoppers, will be hosting a presentation by Deputy John Hyslop with narcotics K9 Bear on April 30th at 6 pm at Alliance for Youth.
This presentation is free and open to the public. Its purpose is to inform the community about the impact of fentanyl use and the potential for harm in the future. Participants will learn how to recognize fentanyl, how to identify if someone is using it, and how to have conversations with youth and families about medicine safety, the risk of overdose, and the importance of keeping our kids and community safe.
Maggie Anderson, Lincoln County Unite for Youth, will be speaking about the resources available for parents to talk to their kids about fentanyl as well as drugs in general.
“I think the overall message is good,” explained Beth Morrison from Alliance for Youth. “There are things that you can do to have those conversations with your own families and your own pockets of influence to keep yourself safe knowing what to look for, knowing about Narcan and that it’s availability and the fact that you shouldn’t be afraid of it. You know you’re not going to harm somebody by giving them Narcan if they’re not overdosing. I think that’s the biggest thing is for people to realize and understand that it’s here and it’s a multifaceted problem. I talk to kids all the time and you know, they are aware of fentanyl, but I think part of it is it’s it’s kind of an abstract kind of concept to them. they know it’s dangerous. But, they don’t know where it’s at or how they might stumble upon it.”
