March is a tough month for our Editor, Karen, and myself. This is the month we lost our son Thomas in 2020. Tomy (as he was generally called in the family) would walk 9 miles to Augusta (we live north of there), walk around town a couple of times, and then walk back. It was his way of dealing with stress, or thinking, or sometimes to keep moving. Nothing much held him back. He was a private in the Army National Guard out of Great Falls and loved the Army.
To remember him, every year, on March 20th, also the first day of spring, many people in Augusta take a walk. Sometimes by themselves, sometimes with friends or pets. It’s almost become a tradition for our family and the little town we call home. It’s a great time to remember that no matter what, we never know what tomorrow brings, and maybe sometimes we remember to take a little time to take a walk and reflect.
Tomy had a lot of friends in Great Falls, and we’d love to invite people to take a walk for Thomas, a 19-year-old Army Private, a thinker, and a young man who left footprints on a lot of hearts. If you choose to take a walk for Thomas on Saturday the 20th, we invite you to share your walk with others on the Walk for Thomas group on Facebook. https://www.facebook.com/groups/walkforthomas/
