Meadowlark Elementary Gets Creative to Raise Funds For Their Library

Press release By Great Falls Public Schools: February 28, 2024 – Great Falls, Mt

All 530 Kindergarten – 6th grade students will “stop, drop and read” during National Read Across America Week March 4-9th. However, they will start their 20 minutes of reading every day before that date to raise funds for their library.

“They are so excited to celebrate Dr. Suess’ 120th bday along with hosting dress up days during Read Across America Week,” commented Meadowlark Librarian Lacey George.

Launched in 1998 by the National Education Association (NEA), Read Across America is the nation’s largest celebration of reading. The NEA wants to make sure that all children have access to books.

This year, the theme is diversity and inclusion. Discovering books with different perspectives helps kids find out what others believe and how they feel, as well as to see themselves in the books that they’re reading. When we provide opportunities to broaden our perspectives, it opens up the door to creating a better and more inclusive world.

Meadowlark students will embark on a Read-a-thon to raise funds to remodel their library February 26-March 8th. Each student is asked to collect funds for their 20 minutes of reading each day. If you are interested in giving to this Read-a-thon, contact Meadowlark Elementary at 268-7300.
