The City of Great Falls Animal Shelter is proud to announce that its employees are graduates of the Fear Free Shelter Program. Graduation from this training program exhibits a strong commitment to the health, safety, and emotional wellbeing of the animals in their care.
The Fear Free Shelter program is dedicated to educating animal welfare professionals in addressing the physical and emotional needs of animals in shelters. Understanding that admission to and prolonged stays at a shelter can be a stressful experience for animals, the Fear Free Shelter Program focuses on mitigating fear, anxiety, and stress to improve the overall wellbeing of shelter animals. This holistic approach ensures that every aspect of the animals’ welfare, both physical and emotional, are addressed with compassion and the necessary expertise.
“At the City of Great Falls Animal Shelter, we recognize the importance of providing a supportive and enriching environment for the animals in our care,” said Amelia Caldwell, Operations Manager at the shelter. “Participation in the Fear Free Shelter Program equips us with additional knowledge and skills necessary to reduce the stress experienced by animals in the shelter and also the importance of enrichment opportunities. We are dedicated to improving the shelter experience for all animals that come through our doors,” continued Caldwell. “Seeking ongoing education is a testament to our commitment to providing the best possible care.”
Their commitment to excellence extends beyond Fear Free Shelter Training alone. The Shelter’s staff have participated in a variety of educational initiatives to enhance their knowledge and skills in Animal Care and Animal Sheltering Practices. This includes participation and certifications in programs such as Dogs Play for Life, the K9 Lifeline Programs, Rabies Education, Shelter Education Conferences and webinars. These diverse training opportunities equip staff with a range of techniques tailored to the specific physical and emotional needs of the animals in their care.
“We are excited to continue to elevate our standard of care. As we go forward it is our goal to provide consistent enrichment to meet the emotional needs of those in our care,” added Caldwell.
