The Braille Challenge is designed to encourage students to practice their braille literacy skills. Competitors are tested on a multitude of skills, such as reading comprehension, spelling, speed and accuracy, proofreading, and charts and graphs. The top fifty regional participants are selected to attend the finals in Los Angeles during a two-day competition.

Montana School for the Deaf and the Blind is proud to have Levi W, Amerra P, Caleb S, Jack M, and Gracie J as the 2024 contestants.

Each year students can compete in their age group category at their Regional Event. Participation gifts for the Regional Event are provided by both the Braille Institute and the Local Regional Sponsors such as our MSDB Foundation. Students are given prizes based on their ranking on particular challenges within the Region. Their scores are then sent to the National Challenge and the top ten scores in each age category are selected to compete at the National Competition in California.
