The History Museum of Great Falls is presented by the Cascade County Historical Society. The museum is North Central Montana’s foremost archival research facility. The primary mission is to preserve and share the rich history of this region with the public.

“Our newest capital improvement project is a renovation of our second floor to create a new Research Center & Visible Vault,” explained Ashleigh McCann, Collections Curator. “Our current Reading Room will be expanded to a larger research and education space with ADA accessibility, and we will be restoring an original windowed wall to create a Visible Vault where visitors can watch preservation work in action.”

As part of the remodeling project, there are plans to add environmental controls to the storage area to regulate temperature and also upgrade the storage furniture to accommodate the diverse collection of items. The funding for these improvements has been made possible by a Montana Historic Preservation Award and generous donations from families such as Bjork, Crowe, Klemencic, Larson, Snyder, McFadden, Bankhead, John Stephenson-Love, and the Davidson Family Foundation. Additionally, the expansion of the Research Center & Visible Vault has been funded by Owen & Gayle Robinson.
