Ever thought about playing Roller Derby? Electric City Roller Derby is hosting a boot camp for 5 weeks, where we teach you to skate and the game’s basic rules.

Electric City Roller Derby is organizing a Boot Camp on Thursdays in February. Roller Derby in Great Falls was really affected by the pandemic, just like everything else, and we’re committed to building the sport back up in our community. The boot camp has a few goals, starting first with teaching skaters the skills needed for the sport. It also provides a more comfortable place for people to try it out, as it can be intimidating to show up as someone brand new to the sport, asking to join. A boot camp ensures you’re not the only new person, which takes that pressure off for some people.

There’s also a bit of investment to really get involved with the sport. Purchasing skates and gear isn’t the cheapest venture. The boot camp provides rental skates and gear so a prospective player can try it out before they really spend money on that equipment. Mouth guards will not be loaned, however.

Roller Derby has been in Great Falls for a long time. Our goal is to bring it back. We’ll start by having events in town and giving back to the community. Staying active and strengthening the community provides a sense of belonging and accomplishment. We wanted to help soften some of those barriers to entry for a prospective new skater. The boot camp is the tool we’re using to do that.

Our camp is every Thursday evening in February starting at 6 pm. They will be held at the Wheels of Thunder Roller Skating Rink at 1609 12th Ave North, Great Falls. The cost is $60 for the entire camp, and the only other purchase you’ll need to make is a mouthguard. However, if you have your own skates and gear, you’re absolutely welcome to use it. Anyone and everyone 18 and up are free to join.
