In 1991 while Brooks Kelly was in the Air Force, he had the opportunity to purchase the comic store. He purchased the store which was already in the same building as Scott Swanke and they became business partners, having two separate businesses under one roof known as Action Cards and Comics.
At that time, Brooks worked with the Air Force, ran the store seven days a week, while also running the game events, and taking care of his child a couple of days a week. These days he is thankful to have a manager, Spencer Quinn, helping him out.
In the early 2000s, they moved to the Westgate Mall where they stayed until June of 2011 when the owners of the Westgate Mall announced plans to raze the building. At that time Scott Swanke owner of Action Cards and Collectibles and Brooks Kelly owner of Kelly’s Comics, decided to operate the businesses in separate locations. Action Cards and Collectibles moved to 13th Street South, while Kelly’s Comics moved to 10th Avenue South.
Kelly’s Comics at that time moved to 1221 10th Ave South and had one more move to make in 2019, which was just a short distance away to its current location of 1201 10th Ave South.

You can find a wide variety of items at Kelly’s Comics besides comics, including Japanese Manga, anime, statues and figurines, and so much more. “We have tons of Funko Pop! and we even have itty bitty ones that you can put in stocking stuffers,” explained Brooks. “We have DC characters, Disney Princesses. We also have a four-pack of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.” If you are looking for that last-minute gift for the Holidays, these are perfect.
The gaming section of the store is open after 6 pm where those aged 18 and above can experience the thrill of strategic board games. You can join in exciting adventures and engage in fun-filled competitions of games such as Blood Bowl, Warhammer, and more.
Kelly’s Comics will be joined by Let’s Play for an exciting night of games and dancing at the Mint Room, located at the famous Rainbow Hotel on December 31st. Ring in the new year with board games and dancing to amazing music provided by DJ Fire Moon.
