Good Vibes at the Newberry


Experience the unique blend of sounds between marimba and strings with Great Falls percussionist Jake Henneford and The Cascade Quartet.
This concert will be held Friday, September 29th, at 7:00 pm at The Newberry 420 Central Avenue, and Sunday, October 1st, at 2 pm at the First Congregational Church 2900 9th Ave S. Season tickets are $273-$378, single tickets are $39-$54. This season’s sponsor is Dr. Brice Addison and the concert sponsor is Judy Ericksen in Memory of Bill Larson.

Jake Henneford

Marimbist Jake Henneford has performed across the United States and China as a soloist, chamber musician, and clinician. He has performed at several Days of Percussion, the Oregon Fringe Festival, the McCormick Marimba Festival, and the Percussive Arts Society International Convention, as well as presenting solo and chamber concerts throughout the United States.
As an orchestral musician, he has performed with the Great Falls Symphony, Helena Symphony, Fargo-Moorhead Symphony, Grand Forks Symphony, Grand Rapids Symphony, and the Longmont Symphony. He has appeared as a soloist with the Concordia Orchestra playing Richard Rodney Bennett’s Concerto for Percussion and Orchestra, and also as a soloist with percussion ensembles in the Midwest.
He has taught Music Theory, Music History, Percussion Pedagogy, and private lessons while a student at NDSU, and currently maintains a private teaching studio for up-and-coming percussionists in Great Falls. Henneford has also directed several student ensembles throughout the Midwest and is a coach for the Great Falls Youth Orchestra percussion ensemble.
Henneford holds a Bachelor of Music in Percussion Performance from Concordia College and a Master’s of Music in Percussion Performance from the University of Colorado–Boulder. Henneford has also completed work towards a secondary Master’s in Music Theory Pedagogy and a Doctor of Musical Arts in Percussion at North Dakota State University.

Cascade Quartet

The Cascade Quartet was established in 1978, by the Great Falls Symphony Association. Through the years, they have traveled hundreds of thousands of miles, performing concerts and bringing outreach and educational opportunities to communities throughout Montana and the Northwest.
In 1996 the Cascade Quartet was one of five ensembles selected for Chamber Music America’s Educator/Ensemble Seminar at Oberlin Conservatory, and in 1998 they participated in a cultural exchange concert series with the Lethbridge Quartet from Canada. In 1999 they organized the highly successful Weekend Chamber Music Festival at the University of Great Falls, with the collaboration of the internationally renowned Ying Quartet. In 2003, they collaborated with celebrated cellist Yo-Yo Ma in conjunction with his concerto performance with the Great Falls Symphony.
Today’s Cascade Quartet includes violinists Mary Papoulis and Megan Karls, violist Alyssa Roggow, and cellist Thad Suits.
