Great Falls Public Library Director Susie McIntyre Announces Resignation

Susie McIntyre. Photo credit Kurt Loeffler The Great Falls Public Library Board announces that Library Director Susie McIntyre has submitted her resignation, effective December 27, 2025. McIntyre has agreed to assist with onboarding and training for the incoming director as requested by the Library Board.During her tenure, McIntyre spearheaded numerous significant improvements and expansions that have strengthened the library's service to the Great Falls community. Under her leadership, the library acquired a new Bookmobile, completed major infrastructure upgrades including boiler replacement and air handling system improvements, and successfully addressed basement flooding issues. She also led programmatic changes that eliminated late fines, brought the library into the Montana Shared Catalog system, established partnerships with community organizations, and expanded library hours and programming."I appreciate the opportunity provided to me to lead this wonderful organization," said McIntyre. "From purchasing the new Bookmobile to joining the Montana Shared Catalog to expanding Library hours and programs, I'm so proud of all that we have accomplished together."McIntyre also guided the library through significant policy and operational milestones, including the successful passage of the Library Levy and renegotiation of the City/Library Management Agreement."I am confident that our excellent staff will take the Library into a stronger future to meet the needs of Great Falls," McIntyre added. "The foundation we've built together positions the library well for continued growth and community impact."Library Board Chair Whitney Olson praised McIntyre's leadership and dedication. "We are incredibly proud of Susie's work as our Library Director. Her vision and commitment have transformed our library into a stronger, more accessible resource for our community. The improvements she championed—from infrastructure upgrades to expanded services—will benefit Great Falls residents for years to come."The Library Board will work with the City of Great Falls’ Human Resources Department to begin the search process for McIntyre's successor in the coming weeks. McIntyre will continue to serve as Library Director until the new director is in place. Additional details about the transition and search process will be announced as they become available. The Great Falls Public Library continues to serve the community with regular hours and programming during this transition period.
