Serving on a City board or commission is a great way to become involved in local government. The following City boards and commissions have current openings. GREAT FALLS PLANNING ADVISORY BOARDThe City Commission is seeking applications for the Great Falls Planning Advisory Board. The appointee will serve the remainder of a three-year term through December 31, 2026. The City Planning Advisory Board is a seven-member Board that advises the City Commission on many aspects of Great Falls area growth and development including amendments to the Growth Plan, zoning, land subdivision, annexation, transportation planning, planning roadway improvements, and related general planning issues. Applicants must reside within the City limits. Applications are being reviewed and considered by the City Commission for action during the 5/6/2025 Commission meeting. GREAT FALLS AUDIT COMMITTEEThe Audit Committee consists of six members to include the Mayor, a Commissioner, the City Manager, the Fiscal Services Director and two private citizens. The Audit Committee provides assurance that financial disclosures made by management reasonably portray the City’s financial condition. The Committee oversees the external audit coverage, reviews accounting policies and reviews financial statements. Experience or interest in financial information is helpful. Application deadline is May 20, 2025, by 5:00 p.m. BUSINESS IMPROVEMENT DISTRICT BOARDBusiness Improvement District Board consists of seven members appointed by the City Commission which oversees the functions, operations, management and administration as necessary to carry out the purposes and objectives of the Business Improvement District. Interested applicants must be owners of property within the boundaries of the Business Improvement District or their personal representative, agent or guardian. Meetings are scheduled on the second Thursday of each month at 9:00 AM. The opening is to fill a four-year term through June 30, 2029. Application deadline is May 20, 2025, by 5:00 p.m. TOURISM BUSINESS IMPROVEMENT DISTRICT BOARDTourism Business Improvement District Board consists of five to seven trustees which oversees the functions, operations, management and administration as necessary to carry out the purposes and objectives of the Tourism Business Improvement District. Trustees must be an owner within the District or their assignee. The board meets on the 3rd Thursday of each month at the University of Providence, McLaughlin Center, 1415 20th Street South, Providence Forum. Application deadline is May 20, 2025, by 5:00 p.m. GREAT FALLS HOUSING BOARDGreat Falls Housing Board consists of seven commissioners appointed by the City Commission; 2 tenant members and 5 non-tenant members. The board sets policy for operation and management of public housing properties, HUD-Section 8 programs, and other affordable housing programs. The Housing Authority provides safe, decent, sanitary, and affordable housing for the community’s low income residents. Applicants should have expertise in the areas of law, architecture, real estate, engineering, finance, clergy or social work. The current opening is for a non-tenant member for a five-year term through June 30, 2030. For more information, contact Greg Sukut at 406-453-4311. Application deadline is May 20, 2025, by 5:00 p.m. LIBRARY BOARD OF TRUSTEESLibrary Board of Trustees consists of five members and exists to advise, recommend and advocate for the library in the city of Great Falls, Montana and within Cascade County, Montana. The board supports the work of the library and provides leadership to the library director as well as leadership to the community regarding library services and resources. Meetings are held on the fourth Tuesday of each month at 4:30 p.m. The opening is to fill a five-year term through June 30, 2030. Applicants must reside within the City limits. Application deadline is May 20, 2025, by 5:00 p.m. PARKING ADVISORY COMMISSIONParking Advisory Commission consists of five members, appointed by the City Commission, and an ex-officio member appointed by the Business Improvement District. The Commission advises the City Commission, City Manager, and Planning & Community Development staff on matters related to parking issues within the Downtown Parking District. Experience or interest in the Great Falls Central Business District is helpful but not necessary. Applicants must reside within the City of Great Falls.
