So one of the things we get requested for is home delivery. With a weekly paper, it’s difficult, as our delivery people would only be able to work one day per week. After a lot of planning and working out the details, along with another paper in the area deciding to eliminate home delivery in favor of mail delivery, we are very happy to let the cat out of the bag. Home Delivery is coming to the Great Falls Gazette.
There are still a couple of hurdles we have to cross, the first of which is opening the Great Falls Office. As delivery generally starts at about four am, this means we have to be able to get the papers ready and prepped for delivery. Additionally, some logistics have to be set up, as well as going to our readers and finding out who would like to return to home delivery and who would prefer Mail delivery.
We hope to have everything in place by the end of May; however, it could start as early as April or March if things work out right. The service area for home delivery will be city limits, as defined by the City of Great Falls. Addresses within 1 mile of the Senior Center in Augusta will also be served. Other areas will be added as we have sufficient subscribers and available delivery people in those areas.
We are looking at home delivery because we recently had a postal rate increase in January, and in July, we expect another rate increase of around 10%. This also means we will be revising our normal subscription price. For subscriptions to addresses OUTSIDE of Cascade County, we will be charging $50 per year. The subscription rate for addresses inside Cascade County will be $45 annually. 6-month subscriptions will go to $26 per six months (for all addresses), and one-month subscriptions will change to $4.50 per month. The cover charge will not change now, as this reflects the costs of getting the paper to you. The new pricing will start on March 1st, 2024.
New signups will be able to choose their delivery preference. Existing customers who wish to switch to home delivery should call Sales at (406) 204-8929 or email sales@gfgazette.com to let us know your preference. Note: We are setting up routes based on people’s preselection for their delivery. Once we get started, there may be some delays getting you on a route, so make sure we know how you want your paper delivered early!
