Southall made a name for themselves in the Red Dirt music scene with their self-titled album. Formerly known as the Read Southall Band, their late 2023 release has 11 songs, mostly written by the six-member band. One song, “One Day At A Time,” is a collaboration with Ben Mckenzie. Their music blends styles from 1970s rock, Southern soul, and blues.
Southall celebrates 10 years since their first album, Six String Sorrow. After a decade together, they received their first RIAA Gold-certified plaque while performing at the San Antonio Stock Show & Rodeo.
The group includes Read Southall and band members Reid Barber, Jeremee Knipp, Braxton Curliss, John Tyler Perry, and Ryan Wellman. They formed in 2015 and have played in various venues across the country. Their music reflects their rural Oklahoma roots and combines country, rock, and metal to create an exciting experience for fans.
The band changed their name from Read Southall Band to Southall with the new album. Their self-titled record features 11 high-energy songs that mix country, rock and roll, and their Red Dirt scene’s grit. It also includes elements of hard rock and easygoing vibes. Each member contributes lyrics, melodies, and full songs.
“It’s the colors of different people with different influences making music,” Southall says. “I’ve always believed in the talents of the guys onstage with me, and I want our fans to see that too. That’s why we changed our name to Southall.”
Southall will perform with The Ransom Brothers in Great Falls on Saturday, September 6th, at The Newberry. Doors open at 6 pm with the concert beginning at 7:30 pm.
