Great Falls Fire Rescue Responds to Structure Fire on 1st Ave South
This morning at 1:05 a.m., Great Falls Fire Rescue was dispatched for a structure fire at 1804 1st Ave S. Engine 1 and Battalion 1 were en route at 1:07 a.m. They both arrived on the scene at 1:11 a.m., finding the attached garage on fire and the fire threatening the main house. On arrival, crews found that the occupants of the home and all of their pets had safely escaped the house.
With the fire engulfing the garage and moving into the house, MANG Fire and Malmstrom Fire were called to backfill GFFR’s stations 3 and 4. The GFFR Battalion Chief also called for one off-duty three-person GFFR crew to report back to work.
GFFR had nine personnel, three fire engines, and one ladder truck assigned to the fire. After arriving on the scene, GFFR crews were able to extinguish the fire in 15 minutes.
The fire caused extensive damage to the garage and portions of the house. The American Red Cross was notified and assisted the residents in finding housing for the night. The cause of the fire was determined to be an unattended electric smoker located next to the garage.
